Week 2- Minutes

Week 2- 25m2 Unit and Exemplar presentation

- Initially we did tutorial exercise 2, drawing and marking out floor plans for a 25m2 apartment for two. This was critiqued. We spent to long on organising ourselves , not long enough on design and as a result, the final product was not great. we didn't have the time needed to consider sustainability aspects such as how we would produce energy. I think that the design was also not right as it didn't fully utilise natural lighting and passive ventilation was also not maximised. All in all a bit of a flop.

- After the initial exercise we presented the exemplars that we had found. During the week, we had a group meeting and collaborated all the information we had found on our individual exemplars into a comparable table. This was featured in each of our exemplars on the first A4 page.

The feedback we got from this initial presentation was that we were on the right track and that our method of comparison was good.
- The tutors were interested in my exemplars, and Liked the fact that I had chosen exemplars that were relevant to the final assignment.

My exemplars were :

a T.O.D in the Netherlands- which incorporated social housing

and A design comp in Korea that highlighted an interesting model for an ageing population; how multiple generations could live together autonomously in the one dwelling. A system of housing blocks separated by green space and laid out so as not to interrupt views from all dwellings.

We plan to have another meeting on monday to discuss our next exemplars. As Grant and Myself were the only members to present this week, next week the other two members will present.

The exemplars I have for next week are :
Pindari- An australian exemplar. awarded an AIA award in 2010.
and no. 1 Centaur st, an apartment building situated 30 cm distance from a part of the waterloo railway station in London.
